Jayantbhai Motichand Pethraj Shah (September 23, 1939 – July 9, 2017)
Jayantbhai Motichand Pethraj Shah, 77, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Motichand Pethraj Shah and late Jayaben Motichand Shah. He is
survived by his loving wife, Shushila, daughters, Smita (Munir), Sheila (Chaitanya) and Bina (Sachin) and grandchildren Nayan, Jai, Asha, Akshay, Shalaina, Aria, and Lia.
Jayantbhai arrived in Canada in 1969 from Mombasa, Kenya and quickly established his roots here. From the beginning he was focused on providing for his family, bringing his wife and daughters from Africa, and sponsoring his siblings to come to Canada. He ensured that all of them were successful in establishing themselves in their new homes whilst working numerous jobs and starting a business. Jayantbhai was proudest of his daughters and all of his grandchildren, and cherished spending time with his family. He was often seen sharing his humour and memories with his grandchildren and offering his wisdom with his three daughters.
Jayantbhai will be fondly remembered as an early entrepreneur and active member of the community. Together with his wife, Shushila, he started Jay Shah Foods, an Indian snack food business, over 40 years ago that continues to thrive to this day. He was an exceptionally hard worker who never failed to have a smile on his face and made friends everywhere he went. His congenial, warm-hearted persona and ability to connect with anyone made him a figure that everyone would gravitate towards. His generosity, however, was most notable. Jayantbhai was incredibly thoughtful and provided to many causes and people throughout his life.
Jayantbhai will be greatly missed by his siblings Kishor (Ranjan), Kanti (Mancha) Fulwanti (late Tarachand), Aruna (Ashvin), Kailas (Yogesh), Minaxi (Hasmukh), Ashwin (Sobhana) and Mayuri (Sharad). We mourn the loss of a great husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
